I am pushing for prompt embryonic stem cell research in Pennsylvania so we can compete for the best scientific minds, make our mark in this innovative industry, and help save and improve lives.
I work to defeat any attempts to keep victims of product malfunction and malpractice out of court. I oppose caps on awards for pain and suffering which discriminate against retired persons.
I combat measures taken to suppress voting in urban areas; I specifically working to defeat legislation that would require photo identification of voters at the polls each and every time they vote. I have proposed criminal penalties for election dirty tricks including misleading voters as to when and where they are to cast their ballots, discarding voter registration forms when conducting registration drives, and moving polling places immediately before elections without adequate reason.
I am against any bill that would discriminate against Pennsylvania residents for whom English is a second language by making English the official state language.
I am a strong advocate for a one gun per month purchase limit, and for more restrictions for concealed weapon permits.
Although I have successfully helped pass bills to increase the tax on cigarettes, I am pushing for a blanket tax that would cover all tobacco products and thus further limit consumption of tobacco in its other equally harmful forms like chaw, spit, and pipe tobacco including cigars and cigarillos.
I introduced legislation that would permit universal mail-in voting, internet voter and same day voter registration, and require employers to allow time-off for voting. I support making it easier for military and overseas voters to have their ballots counted.
