HARRISBURG, May 27 – A resolution introduced by state Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., marking the 150th anniversary of McGillin's Old Ale House on Drury Street in Philadelphia was unanimously adopted this week in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
"McGillin's Old Ale House is widely recognized as Philadelphia's best Irish Pub," Josephs said. "With this resolution, the House of Representatives proudly acknowledges the tavern's deep roots in the city of Philadelphia and expresses best wishes for continuing exceptional service."
House Resolution 830 marks 150 years of McGillin's Old Ale House service. Opening in 1860, the Irish pub has attained distinction as Philadelphia's oldest continuously operating bar. McGillin's Old Ale House was originally known as Bell in Hand and still thrives today along with other Midtown Village establishments.In celebration of its 150th anniversary, the ale house will host a special dinner on June 6.
