HARRISBURG, Sept. 15 – State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., is encouraging residents to make sure they're registered to vote in time for the Nov. 3 general election. The deadline for registration is Monday, Oct. 5.
"In this year's general election, voters will make decisions on judges from the state level to the local municipal court, as well as city district attorney and controller, among others," Josephs said. "But if you're not registered, you won't have a say in the decisions that affect your community. That's why it's important to make sure you're registered and then actually get out and vote."
To be eligible to vote in Pennsylvania, you must be at least 18 on the date of the election, a citizen of the United States for at least one month before the election, and a resident of the election district in Pennsylvania in which you register at least 30 days before the election.
"This means if you will be 18 by Election Day, have moved or have just become a citizen, you can register to vote. Current registered voters also have until the October 5 deadline to change their party affiliation," she said.
Residents can register to vote in a number of ways: in person or by mail. Applicants even can go online and print out the application to mail in. More information on how to register and where to vote on Election Day is available from Josephs' constituent service office by calling 215-893-1515, or by contacting the Philadelphia Voter Registration office at 215-686-1500 or 215-686-1509.
Josephs is chairwoman of the House State Government Committee, which includes among its responsibilities oversight of the Pennsylvania Department of State's administration of elections and voter registration.
