PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 18 – State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., said drivers will encounter lane restrictions on the Schuylkill Expressway during the overnight hours next week between the I-676 and University Avenue/Grays Ferry interchanges as the state Transportation Department works on bridge construction.
From 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21 through Friday, Sept. 25, I-76 will be restricted to one lane both eastbound and westbound at the University Avenue/Grays Ferry Avenue interchange for bridge construction.
From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21 through Friday, Sept. 25, westbound I-76 will be down to one lane between Chestnut Street and the I-676 interchange for repairs to the structure above.
The construction, including the lane restrictions, will be weather permitting.
Josephs said that motorists can plan for traffic tie-ups or delays by using PennDOT's new 511PA system that provides free, 24-hour information on the status of interstates and major highways, including traffic delay warnings. The service is available by calling 511 or visiting www.511PA.com.
