HARRISBURG, April 4 – State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., announced that the House unanimously adopted her resolution (H.R. 677) that designates May 2 to May 9 as "Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust."
Josephs said that remembering the atrocities of the Nazi Holocaust is vital in assuring that the same injustices don't happen again.
"Six million Jews were murdered in twelve years through systematic genocide, and millions of other people perished as victims of Nazism," Josephs said. "With the Holocaust survivors and liberators shrinking in numbers, I hope that we will educate our children about the evils of prejudice and bigotry. Someday, discrimination and persecution will play no part in human endeavors."
This year, the international Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Nazi Holocaust, also known as Yom Hashoah, will be on May 1.
The resolution was adopted during Tuesday's legislative session.
