HARRISBURG, Feb. 25 – State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., has been presented a certificate of appreciation by the Wharton Small Business Development Center.
Josephs received the certificate Wednesday evening at the final session of the Wharton SBDC's workshop on strategic business planning.
The director of the center said that Josephs received this honor for her efforts to encourage the development of minority- and women-owned business.
"I'm honored to receive recognition from a center that provides such valuable resources to small-business entrepreneurs," Josephs said. "The programs offered by the Small Business Development Center help not only women and minority entrepreneurs, but anyone who is starting or struggling with a small business.
"Small businesses are a cornerstone of our economy. They contribute to the tone and economic life in my district, and in all of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth. They develop most of the new products, create services and find innovative ways of doing things. And, small businesses care about their customers.
"SBDCs can provide small-business owners with knowledge they can use to develop good business strategies, as well as the opportunity for them to learn from each other," Josephs said.
The Wharton SBDC is committed to aiding entrepreneurs and small businesses in the Philadelphia area. It is one of 18 such centers in the state. The center is located at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and has been a force in the growth of over 20,000 small businesses in just the past decade.
