HARRISBURG, March 21 – State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., announced that the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has awarded $630,000 to the city of Philadelphia through three Community Conservation Partnerships Program grants.
The Center City District was awarded $380,000 to develop plans and specifications for the bidding and construction of three parks, including Sister Cities Park, Triangle Park and Shakespeare Park.
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society received $50,000 for conservation, education and training by engaging at-risk adolescents in environmental stewardship programs at six neighborhood recreation centers and parks.
Thomas Jefferson University was also awarded $200,000 to develop Jefferson Plaza, including the installation of trees, lawn, walkways, benches, signs, landscaping and related site improvements.
"Limitations are only in our minds. As we continue conservation and development of greenspaces in the city, the quality of life will continue to improve for area residents," Josephs said.
The Community Conservation Partnerships Program is administered by DCNR's Bureau of Recreation and Conservation and provides grants and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and other nonprofit groups to plan, acquire and develop parks, recreation, conservation and greenways projects.
