HARRISBURG, Aug. 14 – State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., announced today that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation report on the condition of 54 steel deck truss bridges is now available to the public on the PennDOT Web site at www.dot.state.pa.us.
"The condition of our bridges is not privileged information. It is information that everyone should have access to because it involves the safety of our motorists," Josephs said. "Many Pennsylvania drivers questioned the safety of the state's bridges in the wake of the Minnesota bridge collapse, and I want to thank Secretary Allen Biehler for his decision to make this information public to help ease motorists' minds."
The posting includes a glossary of terms used in the bridge charts, a drawing of a steel truss bridge with components identified and a chart with individual bridge information, including the sufficiency rating and three condition rating numbers.
PennDOT is expected to provide additional data about Pennsylvania's 25,000 state-maintained bridges in coming weeks.
