PHILADELPHIA, April 24 -- To celebrate Earth Day, state Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., participated in activities sponsored by the Clean Air Council on Saturday.
Josephs presented Clean Energy awards to eight recipients who were recognized for their municipalities' commitment to using 20 percent clean energy by 2010.
"It's important to do what we can to protect our environment, and I am pleased to be able to recognize these individuals on behalf of the Clean Air Council for their municipalities' protection efforts. But we hope this effort goes beyond local government and inspires private citizens to use more clean energy in their homes and places of business," Josephs said.
Those who were recognized were: David Bull, Doylestown councilman; Drew McDowell, EAC member of East Bradford Township; James Bray, Lower Makefield Township commissioner; John Butler, Marple Township commission; Brian Hall, Media councilman; Phil Coleman, EAC member of Swarthmore; Jeff Landis, EAC member of Jenkintown; and Julia Stone of West Vincent Township.
These awardees were among the 18 area municipalities that have made this commitment to clean energy in Pennsylvania. Also making the commitment were Jenkintown, and Middletown, Upper Makefield, Cheltenham, East Vincent, Tredyffrin, Schuylkill, South Coventry, Upper Chichester, Upper Dublin and Wrightstown townships.
"There were at least 2,000 people out for this event, and there was a lot of energy," Josephs concluded. "I'm delighted, because it shows a great commitment to passing this beautiful earth down to our children in better condition than it is today."
